There's No Place Like Home, Especially at this Carlsbad Residence

E-mail Print PDF

Most of us need to escape to a cozy, serene resort or take an exotic vacation to get a break from the chaos of our hectic everyday lives. But a Carlsbad couple simply retreats to their favorite room of the house—the bedroom! In this week’s Unique Homes, I take you inside this residence as Shay Jomphe gives me the details about her home.

Take a look at the pictures and you’ll understand why each room of the house exudes an air of romance, but it most certainly blossoms in the master-bedroom suite. From the candle-style chandelier above the bed to the beautifully-crafted comforter adorning the bed (made by Bobby Trendy, the same designer who decorated the late Anna Nicole Smith’s home) to the heart-shaped wall mirror—this is a place to forget all your troubles.

And if you need some time alone, you needn’t worry about privacy here. The master bedroom offers his and hers powder rooms, dressing areas, and closet space. Jomphe has filled her side of the closets and is now invading her husband’s.

“This house was the model home so it’s all highly upgraded and it’s gated,” said Shay Jomphe. Shay, her hockey-player husband, Jean Francois Jomphe, and their two children enjoy backyard barbecues and formal dinners in their elegant dining room.

The approximately 4,500 square-foot, four-bedroom, six-bathroom home with a bonus room features vaulted-ceilings and a wrought-iron staircase leading to a den/game room and the upstairs bedrooms. A guestroom also sits on the first floor. The 2003-built home in the Tiburon development also has a four-car tandem garage.

But perhaps one of the best features is the backyard that overlooks a marshland. The Jomphe’s added the pool after purchasing the home. Large trees line the perimeter of the yard, and as the eye wanders out beyond the property line toward the wetlands, you feel like you’ve left the city and its fast-paced life long behind.

“There’s a wetlands area that can’t be built on. That’s what is really great about this location—no one will ever be directly behind you,” said Jomphe. It creates a private sanctuary—where there’s just no place like home.

The family frequently slips into their swimsuits and settles into poolside lounge chairs to appreciate the sound of flowing water from the pool’s fountains and the quiet sounds of nature. Trees rustling in the wind and birds chirping cover any traffic noise from a distant road.

“We designed the pool so that there is a layout area or you can put the patio table inside the shallow part of the pool; so you can eat and get your feet wet,” said Jomphe.

Sadly, for this family, they’re leaving behind their beautiful home to move further north for Jean Francois Jomphe’s career. They’re renting out the house for $6,500 a month— furnished or unfurnished.

“It’s a great home for entertaining or for raising a family—it’s the best of both worlds.”
